Lake Linden, MI – February 15th, 2020 – The Ishpeming Hematite girls Basketball took on the Lakes of Lake Linden-Hubbell Saturday afternoon. Tyler Young and Bob Nadeau from 98.3 WRUP were there to cover the action. The Hematites would win this one, 66-28!
Ishpeming would battle back and forth with the Lakes in the early going. With two minutes to go in the first, it was 11-8 Hematites with a group of player making buckets for Ishpeming. Tia Mattilla would hit a three-pointer in the closing seconds of the first to extend the Ishpeming lead to 10 after a 7-0 run. Madisyn Mead had seven points in the first quarter.
The Lakes would nail a three-pointer to start the quarter, but Tia Mattila would respond with a three of her own to regain the 10 point advantage and that would be the Lakes only basketball for the first four minuets of the quarter. Ishpeming continued to click and extended their lead going up, 30-11. From there, Ishpeming would go into the half with a 35-14 advantage, playing excellent defense and sharing the ball well on offense.
The Second half would be more of the same as Ishpeming continued to roll. The Lakes had no response for an Ishpeming offense that could attack from all angles. The Hematite lead would balloon to 32 has everyone was in on the action. 53-21 going into the fourth.
Madisyn Mead would continue to have a career night, she would have 20 at the midway point through the fourth. 62-25, Ishpeming.
The Final would be 66-28 in favor of the Hematites! Mead had 20 to lead all scorers, she also had eight rebounds. Tia Mattila had 11 from Ishpeming as well.
