Ishpeming Boys Basketball Slip Vs Negaunee Miners, 76-36

Ishpeming, MI February 14th, 2020 – The Ishpeming Hematite boys basketball team took on their arch-rivals, the Negaunee Miners on Friday night. Tyler Young and Bob Nadeau were on the air keeping fans posted on 98.3 WRUP. Ishpeming would fall in this one, 76-46.

Breck Bell would open the scoring tonight for the Hematites on their first possession. The Miners would respond with a jumper from Jackson Sager. Bell would score again for Ishpeming the next trip down, but that  would be Ishpemings last basket until the 2:30 mark in the first quarter. Negaunee would capitalize on Ishpeming’s shooting troubles and go up 13-4, the Hematites would respond. After an Ishpeming layup, Breck Bell would get a shot to fall and the foul, that would trim the lead down to four, 13-9.

The Miners would go on a 6-0 run in the last two minutes of the first, it would be 19-9 Miners after one quarter.

Jacob Kugler would make a quick shot to start the frame. Both sides would battle back-and-forth throughout the quarter, every shot made by Ishpeming was responded by a Negaunee make. Negaunee would hold the advantage on the scoreboard, 22-14 in the quarter.

At the half, 41-23, Negaunee.

The Ishpeming offense was clicking in the third quarter, unfortunately, Negaunee’s offense never took it’s foot off the gas. The Miners would go on a 12-0 after an Ishpeming run that pulled the Hematites within 12. Negaunee would outscore Ishpeming, 24-16 in the quarter, 65-39 Negaunee lead heading into the fourth.

Ishpeming just wasn’t able to claw back into this one as the Miners kept clicking. Both sides would end up emptying their benches in the quarter and Negaunee wold stretch their lead to 30.

Final from Ishpeming, Hematites 46, Miners 76. Negaunee had three players over 20 points.
