Ishpeming Boys Basketball Takes Loss Vs Menominee Maroons, 69-50

Menominee,MIFebruary 18th, 2020 – Ishpeming Boys Basketball team hosted the Menominee Maroons in the first match-up between the schools in boys basketball  since 1971. Tyler Young and Bob Nadeau were on call for the game on 98.3WRUP. The Hematites would lose this one 69 to 50.

Both teams came out aggressive to start the game, Menominee would win the tip and score in on their first trip down, Ishpeming would then respond with a bucket on their first shot. After a couple of turn overs from both sides, Keagan Monroe would throw down an alley-oop slam to put Menominee up four in the early going.

Jacob Kugler would get things going from beyond the three-point line at the four minute mark to put the Hematites within one point. Both sides would again trade baskets and both would commit a couple of turn overs each, 10-9 Menominee with a minute to go in the first. The Maroons would tack on four more points before wrapping up the quarter, 14-9 Menominee after one.

Menominee would start the second quarter on a 6-0 run in the first two minutes of the quarter. Ishpeming would try stop the bleeding with a bucket, but Menominee would keep up the pressure and take a 29-11 lead with four minutes to go in the first half.

Keagan Monroe would again elevate, to throw down a dunk for the Maroons, the dunk forced Ishpeming to take a time out with three minutes to go, they trailed down by 20.

Breck Bell would get the lid off the basket for Ishpeming as he would drain a three-pointer, 35-17 Menominee, 40 seconds to go in the half. Griffin Argall, playing in his first varsity game would knock down a shot for his first career points.

At the half, Ishpeming 19, Menominee 35.

Ishpeming would start the half with a quick three-pointer and would shoot much better in the third quarter, the Hematites would make four three-pointers in the quarter, the problem? Menominee wouldn’t miss and knocked down three, three-pointer of their own. 48-32 with a minute to go in the third and it would be 53-35 going into the fourth.

The fourth quarter would be more of the same, Ishpeming would start out on a 6-2 run to open the quarter, 55-41 with six to go, but the Maroons would score the next six points over the next two minutes.

Jayce Kipling would throw down a jam for the Hematites, his first dunk of the year. 62-48 Menominee with two minutes to go.

Final, Menominee 69, Ishpeming 50.
