Ishpeming, Michigan – February 11th, 2020 – The Ishpeming Hematite girls basketball team hosted the Gladstone Braves on their court Tuesday night. Tyler Young and Bob Nadeau were in on the action on 98.3 WRUP.
Ishpeming would win this one, 48-46.
The game would start with a three-pointer by Rylee Harris and Ishpeming would go up 3-0 in the first 30 seconds, but that would be the only basket by either team in the first four minutes of action.
The second made shot would be made by Ishpeming’s Emma Poirier, 6-0 Ishpeming, but gladstone would finally get the lid off the basket as they got a layup to fall, 6-2, three minutes to go in the first. Both sides would make one more shot and it would be a four point Ishpeming lead after one quarter, 8-4.
Ishpeming would start the second quarter on a 8-0 run before Gladstone would get their first basket of the quarter to fall at the four minute mark, 16-6, Ishpeming.
Gladstone would go on a 10-1 run in response to the quick Hematite start and with a minute to go in the half it was 17-16, Ishpeming. The Braves would take their first lead of the game with just over a minute to go in the half, 18-17, Braves and they would extend the lead before halftime.
At the half, 21-17, Gladstone.
Gladstone would continue to dominate at the start of the half, but after a quick 7-0 run, Ishpeming would finally get back on track. Rylee Harris would make another three-pointer to give the Hematites the lead at 29-28, but the lead would last only 20 seconds after a Braves’s layup and another make by Gladstone’s Megan Crow. The Braves would continue to poor it on, they would make another couple of shots, 36-30 Gladstone with about 30 seconds left to go in the quarter.
After three, 37-33, Gladstone.
A five point run by Ishpeming to take a one-point lead was exactly what the doctor ordered to start the final frame. Gladstone would then make their first shot about half way through to the quarter to take back the lead, 39-38, Gladstone.
Ishpeming would make a three-pointer to tie the game after a pair of Gladstone freethrows, but the Braves would go back to the line on their next possession, they would split and go up by one point, 42-41.
Emma Poirier would nail her second three of the night to put Ishpeming up two and then she would sent to line on Ishpeming’s next trip down, she would end up missing both, 46-44 Ishpeming with a minute and 30 seconds left in the game.
Poirier would make a shot a the line to go up three, Gladstone would go down and make a layup with 10 seconds left, but it would Ishpeming’s ball.
Poirier would make one of her two shots after being fouled, and the Braves would miss a good looking three-pointer as time expired.
Ishpeming wins this one, 48-46. Emma Poirier led all scorers with 19.
