Ishpeming, Michigan – October 11, 2019 – Tonight the Ishpeming Hematites played the West Iron County Wykons on the Ishpeming Playground. Last game was homecoming for the Hematites resulting in a victory. Would they progress with another win? Would the rainy weather interfere? You can always find out at 98.3 WRUP.
John Corkin scored a touchdown without hesitation as this game began. An excellent start for the Hematites, scoring them 6-0.
The Wykons had their turn to make a touchdown of their own, but Senior Chase Jensen cut in with an excellent interception at the 13-yard line to defend his Hematite brethren. Soon after this, taking a hit to the head, John Corkin had to be helped off the field. Reporters Tyler Young and Bob Nadeau said it looked like “concussion protocol.” He was loaded into an ambulance.
The game reached halftime and the score was still 6-0.
The game continued slowly into the third quarter, many drives leading into turnovers.
Ishpeming Senior Ben Pruett sped into the end zone with the help of Otto Swanson setting up an assisting block. These boys made good use of teamwork tonight. 12-0 the Hematites were taking names. Pruett followed up with another crucial touchdown. He almost fumbled, but the field was on his side. With a successful two-point conversion, the Hematites were winning 20-0.
In the final quarter, the Wykons seemed to be “staying out of trouble.” Said Nadeau. The Hematites made another touchdown and two-point conversion thanks to Pruett. The team finished untouchable by West Iron County.
The Ishpeming Hematites went home tonight with a marvelous win of 28-0.
