Ishpeming, Michigan – October 4th, 2019 – It was homecoming night for the Ishpeming Hematites as they took on the Gwinn ModelTowners from the south. Homecoming victory for the Hematites as they defeated the Gwinn ModelTowners in overtime after a two game losing streak, 36-30.
To start Hematite Friday night we were scoreless; Gwinn started the drive from the 34-yard-line. Otto Swanson was on his feet fighting for yards from the ModelTowners. 23 yard return for Swanson. Fumble recovered by the Hematites; the Ishpeming Hematites then took over. John Korkinen fouled up the middle and the Hematites score and get on the board, 6-0. Hematites at the 31-yard-line with the reception. Under a minute in the first quarter 8-0 the Hematites over the ModelTowners. James Hardick with the reception for the ModelTowners with a touchdown to put the ModelTowners on the board, 8-6.
Timeout called by Ishpeming in the second quarter. ModelTowners and Hematites remained tied 8-8. Touchdown for Otto Swanson from seven yards out. 14-8 Ishpeming Hematites back on top. 24-8 with a dynamite play by the Ishpeming Hematites as they lead the ModelTowners. Final timeout of the first half taken by the Hematites. Chase Jansen wide open for a touchdown! 30-8 the Hematites lead the ModelTowners going into halftime…
Great catch by James Harnick for the ModelTowners with a 35-yard pass play. First timeout taken in the second half for the Hematites. Hematites still on top but Gwinn got themselves back on the board with a two point attempt; score was 30-14. ModelTowners kicked to the Hematites 31 yards and two plays. 30-22 the Hematites lead the ModelTowners.
One score game in the fourth quarter. 30-22 Hematites remained in the lead. Touchdown for the ModelTowners as they gained on Ishpeming, 30-28. Gwinn literally took this game on it’s head. 30-30 tied up again with three minutes to play.
The game went into overtime as both teams tied up 30-30! Touchdown Hematites and Ishpeming wins
in overtime 36-30 over the Gwinn ModelTowners. What a way to end the game on homecoming night for the Hematites!
