Ishpeming, MI – January 31st, 2022 – The Ishpeming Hematites continued their 2022 season facing off against The Iron Mountain Mountaineers Monday evening. The game was broadcast live on 98.3 WRUP!
1st Quarter – In the first quarter of Monday night’s game, the Mountaineers won the tip-off and started off strong at 4-0. With their first possession of the night, however, the Hematites responded and scored at 4-4. Quickly after the Mountaineers got a foul and two successful free-throws. Later in the quarter, a jump ball call went to the Iron Mountain team. With only a couple of minutes left in the quarter, the game was at 9-4. The 1st quarter ends and the Hematites were still trailing behind at 11-9.
2nd Quarter – Facing the second quarter, the Hematites came up with some more strategy and took back the lead at 13-11. Later in the quarter the team really began dominating the court. The Hematites called a timeout after the Mountaineers had an exciting drive. Ishpeming continued to dominate the 2nd quarter of Monday night’s game and scored a 3 pointer with only 5 minutes left in the half. The Iron Mountain team seemed like they were doing a great job of circulating their line-up in the evening’s game. They kept their legs fresh drove the ball down the court and tied the game up at 18-18. Going into the second half, the Hematites lead the Mountaineers, 22-20.
3rd Quarter – Entering the second half of the basketball game, the Hematites started with the basketball. The game was back underway and the Ishpeming team was just pressing on the Mountaineers. The Iron Mountain could not get around the Ishpeming offensive line, 25-20. With just over 6 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, the Mountaineers took the lead at 28-27. The teams were running up and down the court and the Hematites successfully received 3 rebounds and entered the 4th quarter in the lead at 30-29 for the Hematites.
4th Quarter – In the last quarter of Monday’s game, the Mountaineers started off and took back the lead again at 34-30. With under 6 minutes left in the game, the Mountaineers were defeating the Hematites by 2 possessions. 38-33. The last quarter of Monday’s game was an intense one. The two teams were each hungry for the win. The Mountaineers were still in the lead at 40-39 with just 5 minutes left. A jump ball call gave the Hematites more opportunity to score and gain some offensive ground. With under 3 minutes left in the quarter, the Hematites just couldn’t get ahead of Iron Mountain. The Mountaineers continued to dominate their comeback and finished the game off at 51-41.
