West Ishpeming , Michigan – January 28th, 2016 – Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau were in West Ishpeming, MI for the Ishpeming Hematites game against the Westwood Patriots on 98.3 WRUP and WRUP.com. The Hematites looked to keep their season going strong, and Mike and Bob brought you their stats and predictions during the Honor Credit Union pregame show!
The Ishpeming Hematites started off their game against the Westwood Patriots by playing some great defense after losing the opening tip off. The first three minutes of the game were nearly scoreless until the Patriots nailed a long three pointer. After some more impressive defensive play, the Hematites answered back with a three of their own. Westwood again took the lead with less than two minutes to play with a score of 3-5, and that’s how the first quarter would end on 98.3 WRUP!
It was a tough fight for points as the Ishpeming Hematites battled the Westwood Patriots in a very close contest. Mariah Austin was having a great game for Ishpeming, and she had several key plays in the first half to keep the game close. As the quarter passed the halfway point, Ishpeming took the lead and never looked back. Despite the fact that the Hematites were able to take the lead, both teams continued to have lots of problems putting the ball into the basket. By the end of the first half, Ishpeming was able to create a scoring gap of six points.

Mariah Austin continued to play very well for the Ishpeming Hematites when she stared off the second quarter by nailing a three point shot to make the score 18-9. Ishpeming switched up their defense to a full-court press two minutes into the third quarter, and that put even more pressure on the Patriots. Khora Swanson was also having a great game for Ishpeming, and she made a tough layup between several Westwood players with a minute left in the third quarter. At the sound of the buzzer, the score was 28-16 in favor of Ishpeming.
Westwood was doing everything they could to stay close to the Ishpeming Hematites, but nothing they did seemed to be able to break through Ishpeming’s tough defense. The Hematites only had eight turnovers throughout the first three quarters of the game, and Westwood almost doubled that with 15 turnovers with three minutes left to play. The Patriots adopted the full court press strategy of the Hematites in order to give them some hope of a comeback, but Ishpeming easily held Westwood off and took home the win.
