Negaunee, Michigan – January 13th, 2016 – Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau were in Negaunee, MI for the Ishpeming Hematities boys game against the Negaunee Miners on 98.3 WRUP and streaming live at WRUP.com. The Hematites looked to keep their season going strong, and Mike and Bob brought you their stats and predictions during the Honor Credit Union pregame show!
The Ishpeming Hematites started their game against the rival Negaunee Miners by winning the opening tip-off, and they scored the first two points of the game. Despite scoring first, the Negaunee Miners’ full-court press stifled the Hematites and allowed the Miners to jump out to an early lead. Negaunee seemed to be in complete control of the game, as they led 24-11 at the end of the first quarter on 98.3 WRUP and streaming live at WRUP.com!
Hart Holmgren started the second quarter off for the Ishpeming Hematites when he got the in-bounds pass and drove to the basket, only to be fouled. Negaunee kept up their impressive play, and expanded their lead over the Hematites to 13-29. Midway through the second quarter, Ishpeming had a total of five turnovers in the game, where Negaunee only had one, and that appeared to be one of the reasons for Negaunee’s success. Late in the second quarter, multiple players for Ishpeming found themselves in foul trouble and had to be benched to avoid anyone fouling out.

The Ishpeming Hematites trailed at the start of the second half, but they showed improvement with every quarter. Thomas Finegan played another great game for the Hematites, putting up multiple takeaways and remaining nearly foul free for the first three quarters. Ishpeming did their best to mount a comeback, but Negaunee’s tough defense was able to hold their lead. At the end of the third quarter, the Hematites trailed Negaunee 32-45.
The fourth quarter started off with a bang for the Ishpeming Hematites when one of the Negaunee Miners’ leading scorers fouled-out of the game, much to the disapproval of the crowd. The Hematites trailed by 11 with five minutes left in the game, and that was just enough time for them to form a comeback. As the game wound to a close, the fans in the stands became more and more vocal as the action increased, but the Ishpeming Hematites were unable to take the win.
