Ishpeming, MI – March 5, 2021 – The Hemitites were back in action on Friday night as they hosted the Mountaineers of Iron Mountain in boys basketball action. The Ishpeming Hemitites were looking to chalk up their first win of this year’s season while Iron Mountain was looking to stay undefeated.
First Half: Neither of these teams started the game shy. Ishpeming’s Jayce Kipling scored the first points of the night to give the Hemitites a quick 2-0 lead. Iron Mountain’s Foster Wonders wouldn’t let the lead live long however with the Mountaineers taking a five point lead capped off by an ally-oop slammed home by Wonders.
The second quarter was a more defensive battle for the both teams. Ishpeming’s Kipling was able to string together some more points for the Hemitites. Iron Mountain would go into the locker room with the lead over Ishpeming.
Halftime: Ishpeming 25, Iron Mountain 31
Second Half: The half started with a three from Wonders and set the pace for the second half. Argall and Kipling had a good showing as well, making some defensive plays especially during a string of inbound plays. The Ishpeming Hemitites kept the game within twelve at the end of the third, keeping the game closer than any of the previous this season for Iron Mountain. At the end of the third wonders had scored 38 of their 49 points outscoring Ishpeming single handedly.
Even with Wonders sitting half way through the fourth period the Mountaineers managed to keep a commanding lead. The Hematites managed to spread the fourth quarter points around and while the final score may not seem like something to be proud of, it was the smallest margin of victory on the season.
Final: Iron Mountain 64, Ishpeming 42
