Calumet, Michigan – December 22nd, 2015 – Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau were in Calumet, MI for the Ishpeming Hematites game against the Calumet Copper Kings on 98.3 WRUP and WRUP.com. The Hematites looked to keep their season going strong, and Mike and Bob brought you their stats and predictions during the Honor Credit Union pregame show!
The Calumet Copper Kings were able to take control of the opening tip off, and they quickly put the first two points of the game on the board. The Ishpeming Hematites had a tough time with the taller Calumet team, and they had a tough time keeping the score close in the first quarter. Marissa Maino had a great play when she blocked a shot from the Copper Kings’ ace three-point shooter. At the end of the first quarter, the score was Ishpeming 10 and Calumet 20.
The ball was inbounded by the Ishpeming Hematites to start the second quarter, and the Hematites looked to improve on their shooting percentage, which was 20% in the first quarter. The gym was packed, and the fans were having a great time! Ishpeming continued to play their best, and, despite being in the double bonus, they found themselves trailing the Copper Kings late in the second quarter.

The taller Calumet Copper Kings again took the tip off for the second half, but the Ishpeming Hematites looked to put a stop the strong offense of the Kings. The refs kept the game close for both teams, despite some differing opinions in the crowd. Ishpeming continued to do their best to keep the game close, but the Copper Kings continued to pull away as the third quarter wound down. The score at the end of the third quarter of play was Ishpeming 22 and Calumet 49.
Calumet opened the final quarter of play by inbounding the ball, and they quickly added two more points to their score. Despite trailing on the scoreboard, the Ishpeming Hematites continued to play their hearts out. Ishpeming had some foul trouble in the fourth quarter, with Marissa Maino eventually fouling-out of the game. Kora Swanson played well throughout the game, but she had some foul trouble as well.
