Opening Tip

Ishpeming, MIFebruary 28th, 2020 – No you aren’t seeing double, just one night after the Ishpeming girls welcomed the Flivvers town, the Ishpeming boys played host the Flivver’s male team. Kingsford would win this one, 73-53.

Jacob Kugler would find the bottom of the bucket from deep in the first 10 seconds of the contest and the game would be under way. Jayce Kipling would get his first shot to fall and it would be a quick 5-0 lead for the Hematites. The Flivvers would finally find their grove after the first two minutes of play, they would knot it at five with five minutes to go in the first. Jayce Kipling would again find the bucket, but Cole Bracket would get a nice floater to fall for Kingsford.

Kingsford would again go on a mini-stretch and take a three point lead, but it would be the Hematites who respond, Breck Bell and Griffin Argall would both get shots to fall and the Hematites would regain the lead.

It truly would be a game of runs in the early going, after Ishpeming would retake a 12-11 advantage, the Flivvers would make six straight points to close out the first.

17-12 Kingsford after one.

In the second, Ishpeming would find themselves trying to mount the comeback, they would close the lead to two, but the Flivvers would reopen the lead, half way through the second, 25-19, Kingsford.

Every Ishpeming make was met by a Kingsford shot, the Flivvers outscored the Hematites 19-11 in the second quarter.

The score at halftime would be, Kingsford 36, Ishpeming 23.

Jayce Kipling would find the deep ball at the start of the third, but like most of the first half, Kingsford would make two shots right back, 40-26 in the early going of the third quarter.

Kingsford would come out in a press to start the second half, the faster pace benefited the Flivvers as they could stay in an offensive rhythm.

Breck Bell would spearhead the comeback attempt, he would hit a deep three-pointer to cut the once 17 point Kingsford lead down to 12. Griffin Argall would make a three-pointer of his own, but Micheal Meneguzzo of Kingsford would make a three in retaliation.

Logan Hurkmans would make a shot from downtown, that make would be the freshmans first varsity points, but again the fast-paced play would favor Kingsford, 57-44 heading into the final quarter.

Kingsford would switch the flow up in the fourth, they went from a press and fast paced style to a slowed down, move the ball focused offense. The change in style seemed to freeze the Hematites out of the game, 69-46 half way through the fourth.

Drake Asgaard would make a couple of free throws and Jayce Kipling would throw down a dunk to lighten the mood at the end of this one.

73-53 would be the final, the game would go to Kingsford.
