Ishpeming, MI– November 09, 2019-The Ishpeming Hematites kicked off the district finals against Lake Linden-Hubbell at Ishpeming on 98.3 WRUP.
Hematite pride was present at the Ishpeming playgrounds. The beginning of the game started off with Hematite senior John Corkin working his way down the middle and senior Ben Pruett in the backfield. Corkin kept moving, but The Lakes kept bringing him down. Hematites ran the first quarter with no huddle offense. Ishpeming Hematite player Otto Swanson managed to move fast in his pink shoes allowing Ishpeming to get a touch down followed by a two point conversion. Hematites started the score board up with a score of 8-0.
The Lakes were fired up by the second quarter. Caleb Gregorie from Lake Linden managed to get into the end zone scoring Lake Linden a touchdown. The Lakes failed to get a two point conversion, but got on the board. The Hematites and The Lakes continued to battle it out on the field. Swanson was breaking tackle after tackle. Hematites took their first timeout near the end of the second quarter. Lake Linden fumbled the ball. Hematite Jacob Kugler managed to sneak in and grab the ball. Kugler passed it off to Pruett. Pruett tried to pass it off to Corkin, but his ball fell short. The Second quarter ended with a score 0f 8-6.
The lakes started off the third quarter with the ball. Lake Linden’s William Lyons shuffled his way into the end zone allowing Lake Linden to get another touchdown and to take the lead with a score of 12-8. Pruett fought hard not to be brought down. Ishpeming responded quickly, Pruett found an opening in the end zone causing Ishpeming to get another touchdown and a two point conversion raising the score 16-12. The lakes were not giving up Caleb Gregorie ended the third quarter with another touchdown for Lake Linden switching the score to 18-16.
The scoreboard changed fast to 22-18 in the fourth quarter. Otto Swanson came off strong with a one yard touchdown run allowing the Hematites to take the lead. The Lakes and The Hematites struggled to get past each other. With a little over a minute on the clock Corkin swept up the middle and gained a touchdown for the Hematites, followed by a two point conversion by Swanson ending the game with a proud score of 30-18.
