Houghton, Michigan – February 26th, 2019 – Tuesday night high school basketball action from the Keweenaw as the Hematites made the Trek to Houghton. The Gremlins fell to the Ishpeming Hematites on Tuesday night by a final score 53-51.
Shot up and no good in the first quarter by the Gremlins as the clock is scoreless. Rebound taken by Kayla Koski of the Hematites; the ball stayed with Houghton. 1-0 Hematites over the Gremlins. 7-2 Hematites with the lead and 42 seconds left in the first quarter. First quarter wraps up with the Hematites over the Gremlins 7-2.
From the UP Propane Broadcast Booth we begin the second quarter from the Copper Country. 3 point attempt from Sophie Hooper of the Hematites. Ishpeming Hematites 10, Houghton Gremlins 8 with 4 minutes in the second quarter. 13-10 with 3 minutes in the quarter as the Hematites hold their lead. Hooper went up for the shot and it was knocked out of her hands. 15-14 the Hematites take back the lead with 1:20 on the clock. 19-14 the Hematites in the lead over the Gremlins at the end of the first half.
3 point shot from the left is good and the score is 19-17 Hematites over the Gremlins. Second foul on Emma Poier for the night. Both teams tied up 21-21 as the Gremlins tied the score up. 24-21 the Gremlins take the lead. 2 point lead for the Ishpeming Hematites 27-25 with one minute in the third from Houghton. 28-28 the Gremlins and Hematites tied up again! First time out taken in the game. 28 seconds to go and the Gremlins take the lead over the Hematites 30-28. Third quarter closes and the Gremlins lead the Hematites 33-32.
Ishpeming Hematites get the ball back and Kayla Koski with the ball for Ishpeming. 41-38 the Gremlins lead the Hematites. Shot up and in by the Gremlins 41-40! Ball out of bounds; Sophie Hooper had the inbound pass for the Hematites. Madison Pruette ties the score up 46-46 in the fourth. Time out taken by the Hematites as they lead by 2 points, 51-49. The final score as the Hematites defeat the Houghton Gremlins 53-51.
