Kingsford, MI – February 21st, 2019 – The Ishpeming Hematites Girls Basketball team traveled to Kingsford on Thursday night to take on the Kingsford Flivvers! Tyler and Bob had the call live from Kingsford between the Hematites and the Flivvers on 98.3 WRUP and online at WRUP.com!
1st Half:
The Hematites started off the scoring, as they led 3-0 one minute into the game. Both teams couldn’t get much going on offense, as Ishpeming 3-1. Good defense was being played by both squads, as this game was going to be a war of low scoring. Kingsford would tie the game at 3 with just three minutes remaining in the first quarter. The offense began to pick up, as the Hematites took an 8-6 lead late in the opening quarter of play. A late Flivvers basket tied the game, as it was 8-8 at the end of the first quarter.

Ishpeming started off the second quarter strong, as they took a 14-10 lead, despite the many free throw attempts that Kingsford was getting. The Flivvers went on a quick 4-0 run, as they tied the score at 14 with five minutes to go until halftime. There a good game being played in Kingsford, as it was going back-and-forth. The scored stayed at 17-16 in favor of Kingsford for a few minutes, until an Ishpeming lay-up gave them back the lead. After another late quarter basket, the Flivvers led the Hematites 19-18 at halftime.

2nd Half:
The teams traded baskets to begin the second half, as the Flivvers led 22-20. Kingsford went on a quick run, their lead was now seven points. The Flivvers continued to get to the free throw line at will, the Hematites were having a hard time on defense. Kingsford’s lead was now 32-20 with four minutes remaining in the third quarter, as they were on a 13-2 run to begin the second half. Ishpeming would get on the board once again with two free throws, their deficit was now 10 points. Both squads began to trade baskets, as Kingsford led Ishpeming 36-25. Now it was the Hematites’ turn to go on a run, as they only trailed 36-30 with one minute to go in the third quarter. After a strong third quarter, Kingsford led 39-30 going into the fourth quarter of play.
End of 3rd: Kingsford Flivvers 39, Ishpeming Hematites 30

Kingsford scored the first points of the fourth quarter, as they led 42-30 with seven minutes remaining. Ishpeming was struggling on offense, as they couldn’t get much going throughout most of the game. The Flivvers began to pull away, as a huge run extended their lead to 16 points. Ishpeming was playing hard, but Kingsford was too much in this one, as they led 52-35 with three minutes to go. The clock ticked down, and after a hard fought battle for most of the game, the Kingsford Flivvers pulled away for a 56-36 win over the Ishpeming Hematites.
