Ishpeming, MI – September 29, 2018 – The Ishpeming Hematites completely demolished the sixth game of the 2018 season on Friday. They squared off against the Gwinn Modeltowners in an exciting test of will, the ending score being 44 – 8. The week before, they beat the Negaunee Miners 36 – 26.
Our favorite team started off strong during the first quarter. Not a minute in, they scored a touchdown and got the two point conversion, bringing the score to 8 – 0. Shortly after, Gavin Sundberg let his nimble feet carry him to the end zone, resulting in a score of 14 – 0. Matt Trawick ran up the left sideline to the end zone and also got the two point conversion, bringing the score to 22 – 0. Zack Jandreau made a last minute touchdown, bringing the score to 28 – 0. At the start of the second quarter, Jansen from the Hematites scored 36 – 0. The Modeltowners stepped up their defense and the Hematites were not able to do anything until Trawick slinked past them, bringing the score to 44 – 0.
The coaches requested a running clock at the beginning of the third quarter. With time passing more quickly, the Modeltowners stepped up their defense even more, resulting in a standstill. Toward the end of the fourth quarter, ToQuan Starnes of the Modeltowners finally got on the board bringing the final score to 44 – 8. The game ended with a forfeit from the Modeltowners. Both teams played a great game, but it is difficult to dig out of an initial lead that immense. Great job, Hematites!
