Ishpeming, MISeptember 21, 2018 –  It’s homecoming and the Ishpeming Hematites won their fifth game of the 2018 season on Friday night. They squared off against the Negaunee Miners in an exciting test of will, the ending score being 36 – 26. The week before, they prevailed against the Ishpeming Patriots 44 – 36.

On this windy Friday night, the first quarter was pretty slow, the teams ran the ball up and down the field. The only touchdown that was made was by Gavin Sundberg in the opening drive, 8 – 0. In the second quarter, Gavin Sundberg intercepted a pass at the 23, ran 77 yards for a touchdown. Drake Sundberg drove forward and got the two point conversion, the score rounding out to 16 – 0. Drew DuShane from the Miners scored a touchdown, bringing the score to 16 – 8. The next play, Hunter Smith ran from the 85 yards and scored a touchdown, resulting in a score of 22 – 8. DuShane scored again, making the score 22 – 14.

Nobody scored during the third quarter, but during the fourth Gavin Sundberg snatched up the ball and ran it to the end of the filed, resulting in a score of 30 – 14. Negaunee’s Keegan Evra made a touchdown shortly after, bringing the score to 30 – 20 where it stood until Drake Sundberg scored once again. They failed the two-point conversion, but still the score became 36 – 20. At the tail end, Tyler Hintsula of Negaunee made one last touchdown, bringing the numbers to 36 – 26. However, it didn’t matter because the time ran out before they could pull themselves above our team. Great job to both teams, but especially to the Ishpeming Hematites.

The Hematites will be playing again on September 28th against the Gwinn. Listen everything at 98.3 WRUP and online at wrup.com.
