Manistique, Michigan – August 24th, 2018 – The Hematites started their season opener against the Emeralds of Manistique with a big win 52-0! Back in the broadcast booth were the familiar voices of the Hematites–Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau. The Hematites started off with a touchdown in the first quarter with a lead of 6-0 over the Emeralds. Excellent formation from the Hematites. Gavin Sunberg got a 44 yard touchdown run and the Hematites lead the Emeralds 14-0.
Hematites had the football deep in Manistique territory. With a lead of 14-0, Manistique’s defense needed to really step up their game. 38-0 was the score going into the second quarter from Manistique. Hematites on top over the Emeralds.
With the clock running in the first half the Hematites continued their crowd popping lead of 22-0 over the Emeralds. No laundry on the field as Gavin Sunberg got a 70 yard touchdown for the Hematites! 28-0 was the score with just minutes left in the first quarter.
Hunter Smith got great position on a Manistique player. Third touchdown of the game for Hunter Smith as he lifted the Hematites lead over the Emeralds, 38-0. Manistique wouldn’t give up without a fight! The Emeralds were optimistic on the field from Manistique as both teams went into the second quarter.
5:17 left to go in the first half of action with the Hematites over the Emeralds 46-0. Manistique called their third and last time-out of the first half of the game. Going into halftime the Hematites held their lead over the Emeralds 52-0.
The rain picked up for the second half from Manistique but that didn’t stop the Emeralds! With a running clock in the second half the Hematites had high hopes of a big victory over the Emeralds. A great start for the 2018 football season as the Ishpeming Hematites defeated the Manistique Emeralds 52-0.
