Ishpeming Hematites Boys Basketball Grabs Early Lead and Never Looks Back 40-25 – 1/06/2017

Ishpeming, MI- January 6, 2017- The Ishpeming Hematites boys basketball team played it’s most complete game of the season thus far on Friday night against the L’Anse Purple Hornets. They scored the game’s first basket and never relinquished the lead the entire game.

In the first quarter, Ishpeming jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. From then on, the Hematites always led even though the Purple Hornets were able to get the game to a one point deficit. But that ended up being the closest the game ever got. The Ishpeming Hematites led after the first 13-6.

Ishpeming would see their lead get cut by only one point in the second quarter. They built the lead all the way to 12 points before the Purple Hornets were able to score 6 straight points to end the half. Ishpeming finished the half up 23-17.

There was not a lot of action in the thirds quarter until late. Both teams combined for only 5 baskets in the quarter. The Hematites were able to build their lead to 10 thanks to big nights from Hart Holmgren, with 16pts, and Evan Gravendoni with 10 rebounds. The Hematites lead going into the fourth quarter 31-21.

Not much would change in the fourth quarter. The Ishpeming Hematites would keep their foot on the gas pedal throughout the quarter. The Hematites got an all around team effort adding another 9 points to their lead. The final score would end up 40-25 Ishpeming.
