Ishpeming, MI – January 10, 2017 – It was a great bounce back win for the Ishpeming Hematites girls basketball team after suffering their first lost last week. Tonight was an all-around great team effort as they combined to shoot 42 percent from the field.
The first quarter started this game with quite a shootout. Both teams seemed like they could not miss. Luckily for the Hematites, Madigan Johns had a big first quarter, scoring 12 of her 22 points for the game. Ishpeming led 16-11 after the first.
The hot shooting did not stop in the second quarter as the Hematites added another 13 points. The big story of the second quarter was the defense. Ishpeming would allow only 2 points to the Gwinn Modeltowners and increasing their lead to 29-13 going into the half.
The Ishpeming Hematites would add another 14 points in the third quarter as their hot shooting would continue. But give credit to the Modeltowners, their offense would show back up scoring another 9 points in the quarter. The Hematites led 43-22 going into the final quarter.
In the fourth, the Modeltowners would not give up. The problem for them was the Hematites built too large of a lead for Gwinn to mount an unbelievable comeback. This was an outstanding team game played by the Hematites, and a great job by the coaching staff to get the team focused on the next game instead of their tough loss. The final score was 51-37 Ishpeming.
