Ishpeming, Michigan– 09/02/2016– Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau were at Ishpeming High School Friday night for the Hematites game against the Manistique Emeralds. The Hematites and Emeralds both entered Friday night’s game with a 0-1 record after dropping their respective openers.
The Hematites took a while to get going on offense, but once they did, they rolled. The Hematites and Emeralds were deadlocked at 0-0 at the end of the first quarter after a a few defensive stops by Manistique.
Ishpeming got things going in the second quarter after a 29 yard pass from Donald Denofre found Dawson Dauphinais for 29 yards down to the Manistique 2 yard line and set up a 2-yard Denofre touchdown run to give the Hematites a 6-0 lead. Manistique answered with a 50-yard touchdown pass from Nolan Armock to Colton Rice to knot things up at 6-6. The Hematites were able to score two more times before halftime on two Denofre (1,22) yard touchdown runs to give the Hematites a 22-6 lead entering halftime.
The Hematites started the second half by recovering a fumble on the ensuing kickoff which led to an Isaac Olson 3-yard touchdown run. The good 2-point try gave Ishpeming a 30-6 lead. Manistique quarterback Nolan Armock was intercepted by Donald Denofre which set up a Wyatt Bodette 15-yard touchdown run that extended the Hematite lead to 36-6.
The Hematites scored twice more and ended up taking the victory over the visiting Emeralds 50-6. The Hematites racked up 385 yards of total offense, 114 through the air and 271 on the ground. Isaac Olson led the Hematites with 187 yards rushing. Ishpeming improves to 1-1 on the season and they are set to have an open week next week. The next scheduled game for Ishpeming is set for September 16 when they travel to Westwood High School.
