Ishpeming Boys Take Down L’Anse 82-45

L’Anse, MIMarch 2, 2023The Ishpeming Hematite Boys took on the L’Anse Purple Hornets for their last regular season game on Thursday night. Tyler Young and Bob Nadeau were on the scene for WRUP 98.3!

The first quarter started with a rebound put back from the Hematites that got them on the board. Ishpeming took a nine point lead to start the game, forcing L’Anse to call an early timeout. The Purple Hornets got their first two points shortly after. That didn’t stop the Hematites, they continued to push their lead and went up by 10. Hematites remained on top to end the first quarter.

Ryan Maki hit a three for the Hematites to start the second quarter. Fast after, the team got another two points. Ishpeming couldn’t be stopped and got themselves a 21 point lead. The boys played great defense and held L’Anse to six points in the second quarter. Ishpeming kept the scoring streak alive and went into halftime up by 27.

The Purple Hornets came out strong to start the third and hit back to back three pointers in efforts to cut the lead. The Hematites didn’t back down and hit a three to answer back. Ishpeming made it hard for L’anse to comeback and took a 30 point lead. Parker Gauthier had a strong take for another two points. Quickly after, Caden Luoma made a three point play. Parker hit a three in the last seconds in the quarter. Ishpeming held on to their lead headed into the fourth.

Connor Gauthier got his first points of the game from the free throw line to start the fourth. It was a slow quarter for both teams. The team eventually got back into their scoring rhythm. It was 78-45 with three minutes left in the game. The Hornets didn’t stand a chance against the Hematites defense. Ishpeming walked away with the win at the end of the game.
