Ispheming, MI – December 8, 2022 – The Ispheming Hemitites ran into some foul trouble during Thursday nights game. They were able to push through and defeat the Gladstone Braves 52-39.
First Quarter: The Gladstone braves won the opening tip of the game and looked to put some points on the board. The first points of the game came from a pair of made free throws by the Hematites. The score was 2-1 halfway through the first with the Hematites leading. The braves took the lead with three-minutes left in the first, leading 5-3. All of the Hematites points in the first all came from the free throw line, which was not enough to have the lead. The braves led the Hematites 9-6 heading into the second quarter.
Second Quarter: The Hematites look to get their offensive efforts going to overtake the lead and a big three pointer in the early minutes tied the game up 9-9. Both teams were running into a lot of foul trouble. The Hematites led the Braves 14-10 halfway through the second quarter. The Hematites were able to get things going heading into the later minutes of the second quarter leading 18-12 over the Gladstone Braves. Jenna Maki had a big steal taking it down court and putting it in the basket for two, Ispheming led 22-14 with a minute and a half to go. Ispheming was able to find their stride and finished the half leading 24-17.
Third Quarter: Ispheming looks to build on their lead to start the second half after scoring the first points of the half. Both teams cannot get away from their foul trouble as a few were called in the first couple minutes of the third quarter. Ispheming held the braves to just one point approaching the halfway mark in the third, Ispheming leads 30-18. The Hemitites were able to put up 14 points as a team in the third quarter, expanding the lead over Gladstone. Score at the end of the third 38-26.
Fourth Quarter: The Gladstone Braves have done a lot better then people thought they would against the Hematites putting some points on the board to trail by nine. The Hematites could not escape their foul troubles and two players were fouled out of the game after the halfway point in the fourth. The Hematites only built their lead throughout the fourth quarter not giving the braves a chance to catch up as they led 50-38 with a minute left in the third. In the final minute of the game both teams struggled to get something to go. The Ispheming Hematites defeated the Gladstone Braves 52-39 in Thursday nights game moving Ispheming to 2-1 on the season.
