Super Bowl: Why Do You Watch?

NFL Superbowl

This year’s Super Bowl is February 2, between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks. The 48th Super Bowl marks a longstanding tradition of competition between the teams in the NFL. It also marks the best and brightest for commercial advertisers. In thinking about the excitement leading up to the big game I have been asking people why or if they plan to watch the Super Bowl.

Asking around the office has given me mixed results. They guys from sales watch for the game itself but talk almost excitedly about the cost of a thirty second ad. One of the ladies recalled the old Budweiser ad with the frogs. At least one person says they watch the game after the fact and skip all the commercials.

Personally, I have the issue that I watch for both. I’m a big media buff, so I love seeing the creativity of the companies trying to get me to buy their products. My personal favorite is the Wass Up guys from years ago. Or there was last year’s Coke ad with teams racing and people voting who would win. Then there’s the Doritos ad with the finger licking friend.

I also love the game itself. I’ve been keeping track of stats and picking up all kinds of trivial facts about the teams for months. Like, the fact that none of the Seahawks have Super Bowl experience. I won’t know when to leave to get more snacks or take bathroom breaks with all the action between these two skilled quarterbacks.

So now I want to hear from you. Do you watch for the commercials or for the game? What team are you cheering for on the big day? What is your favorite commercial from the past? Leave a comment below and remember to listen next season to the Packers right here on WRUP.
