Ishpeming Boys Come Back from Down 18 to Win Vs Bark River-Harris, 67-56

Ishpeming, MI – February 10, 2020 – The Ishpeming Hematite boys basketball team took on 6-6 Bark River-Harris Monday night. Tyler Young and Bob Nadeau were on the air keeping fans posted on 98.3 WRUP. Ishpeming would come back from an almost 20 point hole to win this one, 67-56!
Bark River-Harris would start with a commanding, 10-0 run in the first three minutes of the first quarter. A three-pointer by Ishpeming opened the scoring for the Hematites, but the Broncos would responds quickly with two buckets before another Ishpeming make, 17-5 BR-H with about three minutes to go in the first. The Hematites would not score again in the quarter,
The first would end with BR-H all over Ishpeming, 23-5.
A 5-0 Ishpeming run would cut the lead down to 13, from there, Otto Swanson would make two free throws to make the score, 23-12. After a shot by Bark River, Ishpeming would make their second 7-0 run of the quarter, 25-20 Bark River, three minutes left in the half.
Both sides would trade blows down the stretch, Jacob Kugler would make a three, but Bark River would respond with one of their own, but Ishpeming would close the hole they dug in the first.
35-29, Bark River at the half. Ishpeming had eight turn overs at the end of the first, but went into the half sitting at the same number.
Ishpeming would open the scoring to start the second half, but both sides would take a step back on shooting in the third. Ishpeming would however chip away at the lead, trailing by only one point with three minutes to go in the quarter, 37-36.
With two minutes to go, Ishpeming would take their first lead of the game with a two point advantage, 39-37, John Corkin would make his third and fourth three-pointers of the game to make it 45-39 with under a minute to go in the third and that would be the score heading into the fourth.
After a few shots by both teams, a Chase Jensen three-pointer extended the Ishpeming lead to 10 with about six minutes to play, 52-42. A BR-H basket cut it to eight, but Jensen would make another shot to keep the lead at 10.
Hematites would go up 13 with about three minutes to go in the fourth, Ishpeming’s defense was just as much of a key to the comeback as the offense was, holding Bark River to under 20 points in the half up until that point.
From there, Ishpeming would not let the Broncos back into the game, every time Bark River would make a shot, Ishpeming would answer.
67-56 Ishpeming, is the final. John Corkin would lead all scorers with 18. Jacob Kugler would have a double-double.
