Iron Mountain, MI – February 07, 2020 – The Ishpeming Hematite Boy’s basketball team traveled to Iron Mountain(IM) to face off with the undefeated Mountaineers. Unfortunately, the Mountaineers brough their A-game and Ishpeming would go on to lose by the score of 82-50
In the first quarter, the Hematites were reintroduced to the power-house Mountaineers. Iron Mountain would get on the board first, second, third and fourth as it was a quick, 8-0 advantage for IM. Ishpemings first bucket would come with five minutes to go in the first, 8-3.
Ishpeming was plagued with the turn-over bug early on, giving IM the ball ten times, in the quarter. Iron Mountain would take full advantage and go on a 12-point run before Ishpeming would make their second bucket with a minute to go in the quarter, 25-5, IM.
Foster Wonders, took over to finish the quarter, he had a three-pointer, an and-one, and a one-handed jam, he would finish the quarter with 20, but Jacob Kugler would make a buzzer-beater three, off the glass, 33-8 Iron Mountain after one.
Ishpeming’s first bucket would come at the five-minute mark in the second, 37-10 as they tried to mitigate the damage with some hard defense. Unfortunately for Ishpeming, Iron Mountain would continue to wreak havoc, it was 48-14 with two minutes to go in the half and it would be IM until the half, 52-16. Foster Wonders had 26. Ishpeming had 14 turnovers.
The second half was more of the same, Ishpeming started to get more shots to fall, but Iron Mountain continued to dominate. A running clock would start as the deficit grew to 40. 67-34, Iron Mountain after three.
The final frame saw the running clock stop as Ishpeming got it down to 30 points, but ultimately, the white flag was flown with about five minutes to go when Ishpeming emptied their bench.
Not all was lost for Ishpeming, Drake Asgaard would record not only his first bucket of the year, but his second and third also and finished with six points.
