It was sure to be a tough game for the Ishpeming Hematites, as they faced the division-leading Negaunee Miners. It was the last game of the regular season, and these two teams are set to take each other on next week in the very first round of the playoffs. Negaunee took the opening tip off to start the game, and they put the first points of the game onto the scoreboard. The Hematites immediately had trouble with the Miners offense, allowing a six point unanswered scoring run midway through the first. Ishpeming was able to put some points on the board, however, by the end of the first quarter, Negaunee led 4-22.
The second quarter started much the same way that the first quarter ended for the Ishpeming Hematites. Negaunee had gone on a 13-point scoring run, and it was only ended when Mariah Austin threaded her way through multiple defenders to score a layup. Ishpeming doubled their first quarter score halfway through the second, but the Miners seemed untouchable. They led by almost twenty points with two minutes left in the first half. Ishpeming was able to more than double their first quarter score, but it still wasn’t enough to overtake the Miners.
