West Ishpeming, Michigan – January 15th, 2016 – Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau were in West Ishpeming, MI for the Ishpeming Hematites boys game against the Westwood Patriots on 98.3 WRUP and streaming live at WRUP.com. The Hematites looked to keep their season going strong, and Mike and Bob brought you their stats and predictions during the Honor Credit Union pregame show!
It was a rematch for the ages, as the Ishpeming Hematites took on the Westwood Patriots in West Ishpeming. The Hematites were able to control the opening tip-off, and quickly put two points on the scoreboard to start the game. There was a lot of scoring in the first part of the quarter, and Ishpeming worked their way to a 7-4 lead with under three minutes left to play. Ozzy Corp added to the scoring when he drained a long three point shot with under one minute left in the first quarter. Westwood also had some foul troubles, which gave the Hematites the opportunity for free points. The quarter ended with a score of 15-6 on 98.3 WRUP and WRUP.com.
Westwood started the second quarter off by adding two quick points to their score, but the Ishpeming Hematites answered immediately with two points from a jump shot of their own. Ishpeming’s defense did a great job shutting down the Patriots, allowing only six points in the first quarter, but Westwood managed to double their score halfway through the second quarter. There continued to be lots of fouls, as both teams had multiple players with two or more fouls in the first half as the second quarter began to wind down. Hart Holmgren ended the first half for the Hematites on a high note, when he drained a running jump shot from the free-throw line.

The Ishpeming Hematites immediately got control of the second half tip-off, but Westwood came out of halftime with renewed vigor. The Patriots started off the quarter by scoring two quick jump shots, and they forced a timeout from Ishpeming to stop the run. Despite using a precious timeout, the Hematites were unable to put a cap on the Patriots, who extended their scoring run to seven points midway through the third. Luke Kuliu ended the Hematites’ scoring drought when he banked a long three point shot through the hoop. Eventually, Ishpeming was able to stop Westwood’s scoring run before the quarter ended, and they still managed to hang on to the lead. Ozzy Corp drained a three pointer from nearly half court just before the buzzer sounded, which made the score 42-29 at the end of the third on 98.3 WRUP!
At the start of the fourth quarter, the Ishpeming Hematites’ Ozzy Corp had 22 points, and he added to that total when he made a jump shot off of a nice feed from Thomas Finegan. The Hematites and Patriots traded points back and forth as the action intensified, and the Patriots approached the bonus as their desperation grew. The action increased even further as the game clock wound down, but the Ishpeming Hematites were able to control the explosive Patriots and take home the win.
