Tonight the lady Ishpeming Hematites hosted the Manistique Emeralds hoping for their first win of the season in their home opener. Four quarters was not enough to determine a victor tonight but the Hematites came up short in overtime losing 45-39.
In a tale of two halves, the Emeralds came out flying first, leading 24-5 at half, with the Hematites only shooting 2 for 22 and not even registering a field goal in the second quarter.
The second half though was all Hematites, outscoring the Emeralds 13-2 in the third quarter. The lady Hematites kept chipping away at Manistique’s lead until there was .4 seconds left for a free throw that tied the game 33-33.
From there, into overtime, where the Hematites actually held their first lead of the game, but were not able to hold on losing for the final of 45-39
The Hematite girls next take on Gladstone Braves on Thursday, December 8th in Gladstone. Pregame will be 6:45PM and tip off will be at 7:15PM right here on WRUP 98.3FM.
