Ishpeming, MI – February 27, 2021 – The Ishpeming Hematite boys basketball team lost at home against the Westwood High School Patriots Saturday afternoon on WRUP 98.3.

Jerzee Karki strikes first for Westwood with a layup to bring the score to 2-0 in the early going. Westwood hung on to a 4-0 lead in the initially low-scoring period. Zachary Beckman successfully complete the three-point play to improve the Patriots to 7-1 over the Hematites.
Delongchamp put up a double to make some headway on the Hematite deficit, the score 9-3. The Patriots remained well in control, however. Westwood carried a 14-3 lead going into the second period.

Marcus Boase helped carry the momentum of the first period into the second, putting up a double to make it 18-3 for the Patriots early in the second period.
Alex Sundberg went one for two at the line to improve the Hematites to 24-4 behind the Patriots, Ishpeming struggling to get anything going offensively against Westwood. The Patriots went into the locker room with the lead, 32-15.
The second half would start with a Hemitite bucket to close the gap a bit, 32-17. Zach Carlson would respond for the Patriots, and bring their lead back to 12 with a score of 34-17.
Ishpeming would then go on a small run capped off by Logan Hurkmans putting a nice bucket off the glass in the net bringing the score to, 34-22.

The fourth and final quarter of play started off to a slow start with both teams fouling often. Westwood was able to build up their lead a bit bringing the score to, 43-26 with just over three minutes left in the contest.
Dawson Delongchamp closed the gap a bit with a three point play the hard way, 43-29. The Hemitites were never really able to close the point margin during the final minutes of the game. Westwood would come away with the win, 48-37.
