Ishpeming, Michigan – November 14th, 2015 – It’s Hematite playoff action on Real Classic Rock 98.3 WRUP and WRUP.com! Honor Credit Union has locations in Gwinn, Marquette, and Negaunee. The Ishpeming Hematites were getting ready to take on the McBain Ramblers in Ishpeming on Saturday afternoon.
The Ishpeming Hematites were able to win the opening coin toss, and they elected to differ receiving the ball until the second half of play as usual. On the Ramblers’ second play of the quarter, Ishpeming forced a fumble, Matt Malone was able to recover the ball for the Hematites with great field position! Ozzy Corp, on a quarterback sneak, scored the first points of the game for Ishpeming, and after the two successful two point attempt, the score was 8-0. After stopping the Ramblers on their next drive on downs, Thomas Finnegan caught a pass for another touchdown on the Hematites next drive, and after the unsuccessful two point conversion attempt, the score was 14-0. The first quarter ended with the Ramblers in control of the ball, near the middle of the field.
The second quarter opened with the Ishpeming Hematites forcing a punt from the McBain Ramblers. Capitalizing off the Hematites strong defense, Donald Denofre scored a touchdown on a nice run, and after the good two point attempt, the score was 22-0. On McBain’s next drive, Ishpeming forced a punt, which the Hematites almost blocked, and took over on the Ramblers’ 25 yard line. Midway through the second quarter, Luke Kuliu took a hard fall, but was able to leave the field under his own power, much to the relief of Coach Olson. With just a minute left in the first half, Darren Giuchin intercepted a McBain pass and returned it for a 100 yard pick-six after getting a great block, and after the missed two point conversion, the score was 28-0. Thomas Finnegan intercepted another McBain Ramblers pass with just 16 seconds left in the quarter, but the first half of play ended without any further scoring, only on 98.3 WRUP and WRUP.com!

The Ishpeming Hematites opened the second half of play by receiving the kick off, but they were forced to punt after a quick set of downs. The Hematites answered the Ramblers’ strong defense with their own tough defensive play, stopping McBain on a fake punt to take control of the ball with excellent field position. Ozzy Corp took the ball home on a 28 yard touchdown run, and after the unsuccessful two point attempt, the score was 34-0. Nick Comment intercepted a McBain pass on the Ramblers’ next drive, which gave the ball back to Ishpeming. However, a high snap let the Ramblers get a safety to put their first points of the game on the scoreboard at 34-2, in favor of Ishpeming. McBain seemed to realize that their season was on the line when their offense started to decode the Hematites’ defense and move steadily down the field. The Hematites came up strong on defense, however, when they stopped the Ramblers deep in Ishpeming territory, just before the quarter ended.
The final quarter of play opened with the Ishpeming Hematites in control of the ball, but they were forced to punt to McBain. Ishpeming continued to play a strong game, both on offense and defense, stopping the Ramblers on multiple drives. However, McBain did their best to break through the strong defensive line, while avoiding passing in fear of another interception. With just over two minutes left in the game, the Hematites went into their time-burning offense, hoping to prevent any more scoring opportunities for the Ramblers. The Hematites ran a surprise run play, and Matt Maki fooled everyone to score another touchdown with under a minute remaining. After a knee was taken on the extra point attempt, the score was 40-2.
