Ishpeming Boys Basketball Wins on Senior Night Vs West Iron County, 64-49

Senior Night in Ishpeming

Ishpeming, MIMarch 3rd, 2020 – The Ishpeming boys basketball team played host to West Iron County Tuesday night. It would be senior night for the Hematites, the eight seniors were honored before the game. Those seniors would go out on top at Ishpeming High School, they would win 64-49.

FIRST QUARTER –

The game started with a nice flow, both teams would trade buckets early on, at the five minute mark, it would be tied at five. Breck Bell would break the tie with a nice jumper, but West Iron County (WIC) would make a deep three-pointer to take the one point advantage.

After battling some injuries, Gavin Argall was healthy and ready to go Tuesday night, he would put the Hematites back in the drivers seat after a nice layup, 9-8 Ishpeming with three minutes to go in the first. From there, WIC would go on a mini-run, they would go up 13-9 before the Hematites could respond with a short two. After one quarter, WIC 15, Ishpeming 11.

SECOND QUARTER –

The good pace-of-play continued in the second quarter. Ishpeming would close the Wykon lead down to two in the first minute of the quarter, at the 5:10 mark, an Ishpeming three-pointer would give the Hematites a 19-18 advantage.

Ishpeming would start to find their grove and multiple Hematites got on the board to extend the lead. After a Griffin Agall three-pointer, the Hematites would be up 28-21 with one minute to go in the first half.

Half time score would be, Ishpeming 31, WIC 23.

THIRD QUARTER –

Ishpeming would start to pull away form the Wykons at the start of the half. With 5:20 to play in the third quarter, Ishpeming would be up double digits, but WIC wouldn’t go away. Justin Nelson would throw down a jam for the Wykons to cut the Ishpeming lead down to seven, 38-31 with three minutes to go.

Jacob Kugler would make a three-pointer from the top of the key, putting the Hematites up 10 with two minutes to go. WIC would again try to make their way back into it by making two straight shots, but Ishpeming would respond quickly.

Ishpeming would take a 41-36 lead heading into the fourth.

FOURTH QUARTER –

Griffin Argall would start the fourth by drilling a deep three-pointer for Ishpeming. WIC would have a plethera of scorers get on the sheet to keep up with the Hematites, Griffin Argall would respond with another deep three-pointer, Jayce Kipling would make another three right after, 54-42 Ishpeming with four minutes to go.

With two minutes to go, Ishpeming would continue to fend off the Wykons as they held on to a 56-46 advantage. From there, Ishpeming would hold on the lead and eventually win this game.

Final score, Ishpeming 64, West Iron county 49.
