Ishpeming Girls Basketball Drops One Vs Manistique Lady Emeralds 37-31

Manistique,MIFebruary 25th, 2020 – Ishpeming girls basketball welcomed the Manistique to town Tuesday night as they took on the Lady Emeralds on senior night. The Hematites would go on to unfortunately drop this one, 37-31.

In the first, Olivia Corp got the scoring started as she banked in the first shot of the contest, Manistique’s Brooke St.John would convert her first attempt and the teams were locked in at 2-2.

The two teams would battle hard on the defensive side of the floor, Manistique would only score three more points in the quarter, but the Hematites would only score two.

After one quarter, 5-4, Manistique.

Rebekah Loman would open the second quarter scoring, but Ava Fleck would knock down a shot in response, the Lady Emeralds would keep their one point lead.At the 5:30 mark, the Hematites would regain the lead at 8-7.

Madisyn Mead would get a shot to fall at the 2:30 mark to give the Hematites their biggest lead of the game, 10-7, Ishpeming. From there, Ishpeming would go on a small run and go up six points, all of that before a quick, 4-0 run, by the Lady Emeralds.

At the half, 13-11, Ishpeming.

Both sides would continue to struggle shooting the ball in the third, with only two minutes left to go in the third, Manistique had outscored the Hematites 4-0 and regained the lead after a couple of free throws, 15-13, Manistique.

Rylee Harris would get Ishpeming’s first basket at the 1:30 mark in the third, 15 points all. Ishpeming would then make a free throw to go up one point, but the Lady Emeralds would go to the line and nail both free throws to go up one. Ishpeming would again slip shots at the line, we would be tied after three, 17-17.

Kayla Koski would start the fourth with a deep three-pointer, but both sides would open up the offense and after a little back-and-fourth it would be 24-21, Ishpeming, six minutes to go.

With 4:20 to go in the contest, the Hematites would again find themselves struggling on the offensive end, the Lady Emeralds would go from down three to up five in about 50 seconds.

After Manistique extended their lead to eight, an Ishpeming three-pointer brought the Hematites within five with 1:30 to go. The Lady Emeralds would go to the line with a minute to go, they would make both, but Mead would hit a shot on the next trip down.

Unfortunately the Hematites couldn’t pull this one out, Manistique would win by the score of 37-31.
