Ishpeming, MI – September 07, 2018 – Ishpeming Hematites won their third game of the 2018 season on Friday night, defeating the Norway Knights by a score of 46 – 19. The Hematites beat Lake Linden – Hubbell 38-12 the week before.
Within the first few minutes of the game, the Hematites dominated the field taking a lead of 8 – 0 almost immediately. A little later, Drake Sundburg scored a touchdown resulting in the team increasing their lead to 16 – 0. Wrapping up the quarter, LaGrave scored the final touchdown, the score ending at 16 – 6.
The Hematites continued their lead into the second quarter, Gavin Sundburg, being a powerhouse for the entire quarter, scored a 34 yard touchdown, bumping them up to 24 – 6. Finally, LeGrave of the Knights were able to retaliate, scoring a touchdown bringing everything to 24 – 13. 41 seconds later, Hunter Smith scored a touchdown from the 17 yard line, bringing the score to 32 – 13. Gavin Sundburg ran the two point conversion then scored a touchdown, the final score of the first half being 40 – 13.
At the beginning of the third quarter, Hunter Smith took a good hit but quickly got back on the field after a short break, showing his immense resilience. Gavin Sundburg scored a touchdown with 6:37 to go, it was 78 yards. They lead 46 – 13. Eventually the Hematites decided to grind out the game in hopes of keeping the score the same until the end.
The final quarter, there was a new Hematite quarterback on the field by the name of John Corkin. The Hematites were definitely biding their time throughout this quarter, as there were few touchdowns. Both teams seemed content to run the clock out until Norway made a touchdown, bringing the score to 46 – 19. Both teams played a good game, but the Hematites prevailed.
