Negaunee, MI – March 7th, 2018 – The Ishpeming Hematites Boys High School Basketball team took on the Gwinn Modeltowners in the Negaunee Gym this evening in the first district final and took the victory with a final score of 76-41.
The Ishpeming Hematites Boys had a big evening here in Negaunee as they took on and defeated the Gwinn Modeltowners, advancing to the next district championship game. Ishpeming put in the first score of the game and Gwinn closed in to end out the first frame 17-8 Hematites, and there was little gain in the finale of the first half when Gwinn still didn’t close the gap with a score of 31-21.
For a very short while the Modeltowners closed the score difference with Ishpeming in the end of the third, Gwinn controlled the tempo and played a great game finishing out the third frame with a score of 49-41 Hematites, it looked as though the 4th was going to be a tight matchup as the Modeltowners fired up, but ultimately failed to deliver against the Ishpeming Hematites Hart Holmgren and Darius Yohe who bombarded the Modeltowners with unanswered points and took a major victory with a final score of 76-47.
The outcome of this game was expected by most, but the real story here is the Ishpeming Hematites next game versus the Westwood Patriots, reminiscent of the girl’s district games when they defeated Gwinn and went on to play the Patriots after upsetting the Negaunee Miners.
