L’Anse, MI – February 12th, 2018 – The Ishpeming Hematites Girls High School Basketball team took on the L’Anse Purple Hornets this evening and took the W with a final score of 68-41.
The Hematites took court this evening in L’Anse facing off against a very unprepared Purple Hornets team who were missing two of their seniors. Despite L’Anse putting up the first score of the game, the Hematites made quick work of the Hornets with a giant lead of 17-4 Hematites to end the first frame.
L’Anse fired back in the second, although with not enough to completely bridge the gap, and instead lost more ground to the Hematites increasing the difference to 16 to finish out the second quarter 33-17 Hematites.
The Hematites delivered 13 unanswered points in the third before L’Anse breaking it up with a 3-pointer shot. It was more of the same for these teams throughout the remainder of the third and Ishpeming pushed the point difference to 28 by the end of the third 54-28.
Ishpeming went on to dominate the final frame of the game and take the win with a final score of 68-41. Madigan Johns led the team score with a total of 19, followed by Mariah Austin with 18.
The Ishpeming Hematites Girls are back in action facing off against the Escanaba Eskymos in Escanaba February 15th. Catch the game on 98.3 WRUP with Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau. Pre-game is at 7:10PM and tip-ff at 7:30PM.
