Gladstone, MI – December 7th, 2017 –The Ishpeming Hematites girl’s basketball team took the court coming off of a two win streak at the start of their season and looked take out the Gladstone Braves after the Hematites Boy’s team narrowly lost on Tuesday to the Gladstone Braves team. The Hematites bring home another victory over Gladstone 53-38 bringing them to 3-0.
The first frame opened with Chloe Sjoholm bringing home the first three points for the Hematites, who is celebrating her 18th Birthday. The Hematites played strong offense scoring buckets on the Braves and maintained a strong lead throughout the length of the quarter finishing with a 15-10 lead.

The Hematites took the court in the second quarter with Mariah Austin and Madigan Johns picking rebounds and pressuring the Braves. The name of the game for the girls was maintaining their lead over the Braves and extending their gap over Gladstone and managed a successful frame with Sophie Hooper taking the court in the closing minute before the start of the half. The Hematites lead 27-20.
At the start of the second half the Hematites fired up and put heat on Gladstone, picking the ball from the Braves and with the help of Madigan Johns defensive game maintained the pressure. Early in the third the girls pulled up a 13 point lead over Gladstone showing their prowess on the court, sinking baskets at the line. The Hematites finished the final frame winning against the Braves 53-38.
Coach Ryan Reichel interviewed after the game with WRUP and stated he was pleased with the win over Gladstone. he went on to talk about the exceptional game the girls played when facing the Braves Freshmen Megan Crow, who stands at a staggering 6’3″ at just 14 years old. Madigan Johns continuously shut Crow down and scored 20 of the 58 points for the Hematites for the game, with Mariah Austin coming in close behind with 11 of her own. The Hematites played a very controlling game against the Braves with only 11 turnovers where Gladstone had 24.
