The Ishpeming Hematite Boys basketball team tonight started their 2012-2013 season on the road going to Manistique to play the Emeralds.
The Hematites came out playing well against the Emeralds leading 32-24 by halftime. The Emeralds slowly worked away their lead though throughout the second half, being only behind by six points by the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth the Hematites had a lead the entire quarter and clung to a one point lead with less than thirty seconds left in the game. The Emeralds were able to sink a shot as time expired though to win a heart-breaker against the Hematites.
Ishpeming Hematite Boys basketball continues in January when they play the Norway Knights on Friday, January 4th in Ishpeming. Pregame will be 7:15PM and tip off will be at 7:30PM right here on WRUP 98.3FM.

This recording will be cherrished forever by this family because my son Connor Selling sank the winning baseline jumper to upset the hematites, comming off of a football state title……it meant alot to my son, because he’s went thru alot these past 2 years healthwise, and he deserved it! something he’s always wished for is a game winning shot, and it happened!….footnote: before the game, i went over to the young gentleman (and the rest of his team) Eric Dompierre and introduced myself and asked for his autograph, which i got him to sign on a pic of the state championship trophy! he loved it! i shook his hand and congratulated the boyz on winning the title, and i could tell they were glad i acknowledged him and i went on my way…..it was also my birthday too! what a great gift i got with him hitting the game winner! now he can listen to this over and over! thanks alot!
