Ishpeming, MI- January 17, 2017- It was a tight game from start to finish for the Hematites as they went toe to toe with the Redmen, who are arguably the best team in the U.P. Once again Ishpeming put together a complete game, but Marquette was simply on fire from beyond the arch.
Both teams wouldn’t take a ton of shots in the first quarter, it seemed as if they were feeling each other out. It was all tied up at seven until Marquette would sink a buzzer beating 3 point shot. Marquette led at the end of first 10-7.
After that, the Redmen would never give up the lead. It seemed every time the Hematites would get close, Marquette would sink another three. You would see a lot of scoring in the second quarter as both team would score over 20 points. The Redmen go into the half up 35-28.
Instead of all the run and gun you saw in the second things slowed back down in the third. It was a quarter where the Hematites would come within three of Marquette twice but like I said earlier, the Redmen would sink three-pointers both times. Marquette held the lead 45-39 heading into the final quarter.
Marquette would start the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run, and that seemed to be the dagger in this game. The Hematites never gave up it was simply too much to over come in one quarter. Especially when the Redmen would finish 16 of 20 from beyond the arch. It was a great game from the Hematites but in the end Marquette would win 57-47.
