Ishpeming Hematites girls basketball team defeats Iron Mountain Mountaineers 78-46

Iron Mountain, MI- January 12, 2017- It was a sluggish start for the Ishpeming Hematites girls basketball team tonight. But they would eventually play the way they are capable of and hand the Iron Mountain Mountaineers a loss.

A look at Mike and Bob before the game.

It was a surprising first quarter as the Hematites struggled to get an early lead for the game. They did have a nice team effort in the scoring column as all starting five would record some points. Ishpeming would fall behind 12-11 to the Mountaineers at the end of the first.

The second quarter is when the Hematites would get it going and take a lead as well is separate themselves from Iron Mountain. Khora Swanson (9 points)  and Marissa Maino (10 points)  would have a big second quarter for the Hematites. Ishpeming led going into the half 38-24.

The Hematites would continue right into the third quarter with their great play. The Mountaineers simply had no answer for Ishpeming as they added to their lead. It seemed like every time Iron Mountain might be able to dig into the Hematites lead, Ishpeming would answer with a big basket.

With the game in hand, the Hematites kept their great night going. They would play hard until the final whistle. By the end of this game it would prove to be a great team effort as four players would finish in double figures (Mariah Austin 15 points, Madigan Johns 10 points, Khora Swanson 11 points, and Marissa Maino 23 points). Ishpeming would win 78-46.
