Iron Mountain, MI – February 23rd, 2015 – The Ishpeming Hematites boys basketball team took on the Iron Mountain Mountaineers in Iron Mountain tonight. Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau brought you the action live on 98.3 WRUP!
The Hematites scored first with Ozzy Corp hitting a 3-pointer early in the quarter. A free throw from Ozzy Hakkarinen was followed by Luke Kuliu hitting a jumper to make it 6-5. Corp hit another 3-pointer for the Hematites, and then scored again before the end of the quarter, and the Hematites lead 11-9 going into the second quarter.

The Hematites stretched their lead early in the second when Thomas Finegan and Kuliu and both scored to make it 15-9. Iron Mountain then scored 8 straight points, until Corp scored to tie the game at 17. Another basket from Corp tied the game again at 19, and Finegan hit a free throw to make it 20-19 going into halftime.

Ishpeming extended their one point lead throughout the third quarter, with Kyle Torres scoring two straight baskets, and Hakkarinen scoring twice early in the quarter to give the Hematites a 28-24 lead halfway through the quarter. Corp drove to the basket and scored with 3 minutes left, and then hit a running jumper to make it 32-24. The Mountaineers then went on a run of their own, scoring 7 straight to make it 32-31. Kuliu hit a 3 at the end of the quarter to give the Hematites a 35-31 lead going into the fourth quarter.

The Mountaineers tied the game back up at 35 with 4:40 left in the game. Iron Mountain scored to take a 2 point lead with under 4 minutes left. Iron Mountain then scored 6 points to take a 37-43 lead. Ishpeming got the game as close as 42-43, but was unable to score in the final possessions, and lost 42-45.

The Hematites were lead in scoring by Ozzy Corp who had 20 points and 11 rebounds. Luke Kuliu had 7 points and 6 rebounds, and Thomas Finegan had 6 points for the Hematites.
