Iron Mountain, Michigan – February 2nd, 2015 – The Ishpeming Hematites girls basketball team took on the Iron Mountain Mountaineers in Iron Mountain tonight! Mike Plourde and Bob Nadeau brought you all the action on 98.3 WRUP & WRUP.com!
The first quarter saw the Hematite girls struggling to score, only putting up 5 points in the first quarter, behind 4 points from Jessica Spencer and a free throw from Jessica Spencer. Iron Mountain lead the Hematites 5-8 going into the second quarter.

The Hematites gave up another basket to start the second quarter, followed by Marissa Maino scoring to make it 7-10. The Mountaineers scored in the paint, and then Maino hit a 3-pointer to make it 10-12. Morgan Skytta hit 2 free throws on the next play to tie the game at 12. Iron Mountain’s Alena Herman drove to the basket and made a layup, followed by a jump shot by Sarah Bogaudo to make the score 12-16 with less than 2 minutes left in the half.

The third quarter saw both teams struggling offensively, with neither team scoring until 3:30 left in the quarter, when the Emeralds broke the ice to make it 16-19. Ishpeming would not score until less than 2 minutes left in the quarter when Jessica Spencer had a 3-point play to make it 19-23. Manistique hit a 3-pointer, and then scored again, leaving Ishpeming down 19-28 going into the final quarter.

Iron Mountain Mountaineers: 28
Ishpeming started the quarter down 9, and an early Emeralds basket made it a 11 point deficit. Marissa Maino made a free throw for the Hematites, and then Tammy Simula stole the ball on defense and scored a breakaway layup to make it 22-30 with 6 minutes left in the game. Two consecutive possessions with two free throws each from Khora Swanson made it a 4 point game with 5:11 left. Swanson scored again on a jumpshot to make it a 2 point game with 4 minutes left. Jessica Spencer scored to tie the game, and then Iron Mountain scored on the other end to make it 30-32 with 3:30 left in the game. The Hematites tied the game at 32 with less than a minute left. Iron Mountain scored to take the 2-point lead, and Ishpeming got the ball with 20 second left. Ishpeming was unable to get a shot off before the buzzer, and took the 32-34 loss.

The Hematites were lead in scoring by Jessica Spencer, who had 11 points and 6 rebounds, and Marissa Maino, who also had 8 points. Khora Swanson had 7 points, all of which were in the fourth quarter. Ishpeming struggled shooting, making 9 out 45 from the field in the game.
The Ishpeming Hematites girls team will play against the Gwinn Modeltowners in Gwinn on Wednesday, February 4th, at 7:30p on 98.3 WRUP.
