Ishpeming Hematites Fall To The Hancock Bulldogs 43-36, On WRUP 98.3

Ishpeming, MI – January 6th, 2022 – The Ishpeming Hematites started off the new year hosting the Hancock Bulldogs Thursday evening. The game was broadcast live on 98.3 WRUP!

1st Quarter – The first quarter of Thursday night’s game opened with both the Hematites and the Bulldogs looking hungry for a win to secure for the new year. On the tip is Addie Morton for the Hematites and they secured a quick 2 points. Just two minutes into the game and the attempted shot called a foul that gave the Bulldogs a couple successful free throws. With 2:59 left in the quarter, the Hematites seemed like their 8 point lead would carry into the 2nd quarter. This was quickly denied as the Bulldog’s own Kalli Chynoweth for the Bulldogs saw a lot of action Thursday night and took control of the ball early in the game. With only 11 seconds left in the quarter and the Hematites leading with 1, a Hancock free throw tied it up at 12 points.

2nd Quarter – Starting in the second quarter the Hematites really kicked off and kept the Bulldogs in the dust, at 14-12 quickly after the clock started. The Bulldogs drove inside and attempted the three point shot but it was no good. Within 4 minutes of the 2nd quarter they kept throwing the ball down and began to gain more traction in the game. Throughout the quarter the Hancock team gained a surprising lead. 21-15 for the Bulldogs. With under 2 minutes left the Hematites tried to get inside and caused a foul for the Bulldogs. The game’s half ends at 30-15.

 

3rd Quarter – After halftime Hematites still couldn’t find their footing and the Bulldogs came out strong at 32-15. With Hematite’s Jenna Maki back on the court Ishpeming is looking a little stronger. A good play by the Hematites brought them up to 32-19. There were only 3 minutes left in the 3rd to go and the Hematites were slowly closing the lead at 32-22. A great play by the Hematites own Bailey Zellar got them closer to the Hancock team at 34-27. Under a minute in the 3rd quarter ends with the Hematites close behind at 34-28.

4th Quarter – Going into the last quarter of Thursday evenings game, the Hancocks had really taken control. The Ishpeming Hematites closely followed throughout the night. With five minutes left in the game the bulldogs still lead at 36-30. Hematites coming up the court and Swanson sank one in 36-32. With only 2:25 left in the game the Hematites were looking for points. Facing up to the Bulldogs, the Hematies attempted at the 3 but a foul was called after she over shot the throw. Hematites continued to fall behind even after a successful free throw. A fast drive towards the end of the game by the Hematites brought them within 3 points of catching up. With a minute left in the game Hematites just couldn’t close the gap and Hancock took the win at 43-36.
