Green Bay, WI – For the Packers, the bye week couldn’t have come at a better time. With injuries to key players such as Eddie Lacy, Jermichael Finley, Clay Matthews, Morgan Burnette, James Starks, John Kuhn, & Johnathan Franklin the Packers were a couple of cheap losses away from being out of NFC North contention. The Packers have been riddled with injuries each of the past three seasons and the same can already be said about this one. However, with the exception of James Starks, they will be at full strength for the first time this year.
They take on the Detroit Lions who are coming off of a huge 40-32 win over the Chicago Bears last Sunday. The Lions are looking to end a very prominent streak this weekend at Lambeau Field: They haven’t won there since 1991. However, the Lions managed to end another depressing streak already this season beating the Redskins in Washington for the first time in over 70 years. I still wouldn’t bet on Detroit winning this weekend, however. The Packers defense has been serviceable this season without it’s best safety (who will be playing on Sunday), and Aaron Rodger & Co. has had two weeks to prepare for this Lions’ defense. If Detroit wants to win, they’ll have to get the ball to Calvin Johnson & Reggie Bush as early and often as possible, and get pressure on Aaron Rodgers with three to five rushers consistently. Either way you slice it though, the Packers & Lions should both be prepared for a shootout in Lambeau Field this coming Sunday.
