Ishpeming, MI – February 05, 2020 – The Ishpeming Hematite girls Basketball took on the Gwinn Modeltowners at home Thursday night. Tyler Young and Bob Nadeau from 98.3 WRUP were at the game reporting on every play.
Gwinn won the tip. Hematite Rebekah Loman turned the scoreboard on with a two pointer 2-0. Modeltowner Lena Pleaugh responded with a bucket 2-2. Gwinn player Eliina Miilu broke the tie with a layup 4-2. Ishpeming senior Kayla Koski tied the game back up with a floater 4-4. Modeltowner Marissa Delmont broke the tie with a layup 6-4. Koski fouled, the Modeltowners scored two free throws 8-4. At the end of the first quarter Delmont scored again 10-4.
Olivia Corp started the second quarter off with a basket for the Hematites. Modeltowner Halle Beauchamp fouled, Corp put a free throw in 10-7. Delmont scored again for the Modeltowners 12-7. Corp found Madisyn Mead on the court, Mead threw the ball in and scored 12-9. Modeltowner Emily Curtice responded with some points 16-9. Gwinn Modeltowner Lena Pleaugh threw in a bucket 18-9. Loman quickly answered with a two 18-11. Modeltowner Tianna Taylor worked her way in with a basket 20-11. Taylor turned around and scored a reverse layup 22-11. With less than thirty seconds on the clock Loman bounced the ball in 22-13.
Ishpeming was working hard trying to catch up to the Modeltowners. Delmont scored a three right away 25-13. Mead responded with a two 25-15. Corp threw in a left handed shot 25-17. Emily Curtice threw in a three 28-17. The Modeltowners pushed back in with two 30-17. Corp quickly threw in a two 30-19. At the end of the third quarter the Modeltowners put up a three 33-19.
The fourth quarter went by fast, the Modeltowners were keeping the Hematites at bay. Poirier scored a free throw 33-20. Corp received her first foul, Modeltowner Emily Curtice went to the line and scored two free throws 35-20. Modeltowner Mackenzie Malette fouled, Mead went to the line and threw a free throw in 35-21. Curtice threw in a two pointer 37-21. Gwinn player Megan Ruokolainen made an appearance with a bucket 39-21. Poirier fouled out of the game. Taylor threw in a two 41-21. Maria Montcalm answered with a basket 41-23. Ruokolainen put in two free throws 43-23. Beauchamp scored a shot 45-23. Mead quickly followed with a shot 45-25. Miilu floated one in 47-25. Mead got her hands back on the ball and scored a layup 47-27. At the end of the fourth quarter Hematites fouled and Pleaugh threw in the last points of the game 49-27.
