Marquette, MI – January 21, 2020 –The Ishpeming Hematite boys basketball traveled a couple towns over to play the Marquette Redmen on Tuesday night. Tyler Young and Bob Nadeau Broadcasted the game on 98.3 WRUP.
The Marquette Redmen received the tip. Marquette senior Drew Wyble started the game off with a two pointer 2-0. Hematite Breck Bell shot up a three 3-2. Redmen Lincoln Sager was quick to respond with a three 5-2. Marquette went in for another 8-2. Sager bounced one off the backboard 10-3. Marquette Junior Kam Karp found an opening and scored 12-3. Hematite Ben Pruett fought back and scored one off the rim 12-5. Ishpeming Senior Gavin Argall followed behind with a two pointer 12-7. Marquette Junior Ty Lotterman worked his way through and scored 14-7. Hematite John Corkin passed the ball back to Argall, Argall scored again 14-9. Corkin got his hands back on the ball and got the ball in the bucket 14-11. Marquette quickly answered with a three 17-11. Corkin decided to get in one more before he ran out of time 17-14.
The Hematites started off with the ball in the second quarter. The Marquette Redmen scored right away 20-14. Marquette senior Collin Hicks flew across the court and scored a three pointer 23-14. Hicks teammate Karp followed right behind him with a two pointer 25-14. Bell found an opening and made a bucket 25-16. Lotterman responded with a two pointer 27-16. Hematite Jacob Kugler worked his way inside and scored a three 27-19. Marquette sophomore David Eberhard went to the free throw line and scored both baskets 29-19. Karp went the length of the court and scored 34-20. Argall manged to push through and scored 34-22. The Marquette Redmen pushed back with a basket 36-22. Pruett went up with a left handed shot and made it 36-24. With less than fifteen seconds left Justin Jurmu scored a bucket for the Marquette Redmen 39-24.
Wyble started the third quarter off right away with a basket 42-24. Argall answered quickly with a two pointer 42-26. The Hematites struggled to get past the Redmen. The Redmen made another basket 44-26. Corkin received a foul and Sager went to the line and made both free throws 45-26. Sager worked his way past Hematite Jayce Kippling and scored a two 47-26. Argall quickly followed with a two pointer 47-28. Shortly after making his two pointer Argall fouled and the Redmen scored two free throws 49-28. Kugler manged to bump the Hematites up a few points 49-31. Lotterman moved fast and scored 51-31. John Thomson managed to push his Marquette Redmen further with some points 55-31. Pruett found Argall on the court, Argall went up and scored 55-33. Swanson went to the line and made a free throw 55-34. Eberhard picked up his second foul. Kugler went to the free throw line and scored both baskets 56-36. With seconds left in the third quarter Hicks scored a two pointer 59-36.
The last quarter flew by. Eberhard came back in the game and scored for the Redmen 61-36. Kugler went to the free throw line and scored one of the buckets 61-37. Bell went up with a smooth layup 61-38. Eberhard passed the ball on to Hicks, Hicks scored 63-37. Argall responded fast with a shot 63-39. Hicks was hungry for more and scored a three pointer 66-41. Eberhard found another opening and scored 68-41. Corkin ended up at the free throw line and scored one basket 68-42. Eberhard fought for more and scored more points 72-42. Isaac Johnson tacked some more points on for the Redmen with a two pointer 74-42. The Marquette Redmen pushed for more with another shot 76-42. Marquette junior Truman Langlois moved on the court and scored 78-42. Marquette junior Connor Johnson walked to the free throw line and made both baskets 80-44. Kippling scored two more free throws at the end of the game, but it was not enough 80-46. It was a red hot win for the Redmen 80-46.
