It’s that time again! Fall is in the air, and that means that cyclocross bike racing season is here! The intense off-road racing action started this past Sunday, South of Republic, MI, at the first race of the year, titled “Farmcross”.
Cross races typically take place in the autumn and winter, and consist of many laps of a short (~1mi) course often featuring pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and obstacles requiring the rider to quickly dismount and carry the bike while navigating the obstruction and remount.
It was a dry and dusty race, and that meant the action was super fast for the road portions. The race also featured lots of single-track in the woods, and like any good cross race, there was lots of loose soil, roots, and other obstacles in the trees. I definitely had a huge blast, and I can’t wait for the next race with my new bike! There was even a ton of food available for all the hungry racers, thanks to the awesome people at UPCROSS and KMK Cycling Group!
The racing is only going to get better as the weather cools down, so make sure to join us for the next race, which takes place on Sunday, October 11th. That race is going to be taking place on the Fit Strip, near the 7th Street Cemetery in Marquette, MI! There are races for all categories of riders, and you don’t even have to have a cyclocross specific bike to race!
A special thanks goes out to UPCROSS, KMK Cycling Group, Fond du Lac Cyclery and Fitness (WI), Quick Stop Bike Shop (MI), and Great Lakes Radio! Without them, none of this would have been possible! Be sure to check out the link below to the video of the Men’s A race start!
