Ishpeming Hematites Boys’ Basketball Defeats Gladstone Braves 56-53

The Ishpeming Hematites defeated the Gladstone Braves 56-53 in Ishpeming

Ishpeming, MIJanuary 23, 2018 – The Ishpeming Hematites boys’ basketball team defeated the Gladstone Braves 56-53 on Tuesday night, in a game that was broadcast live on 98.3 WRUP and online at wrup.com.  The Hematites, who were coming off of a win against the Gwinn Modeltowners, were able to grab their second straight victory against the Braves.

The Ishpeming Hematites wasted no time, springing out to an early 6-0  lead on the Gladstone Braves.  Gladstone was not deterred, however, and battled hard to bring a 19-13 scoreline into the second quarter.  The two teams fought evenly throughout the half, but the Braves were able to pick up their play in the second quarter and take a 29-25 lead into halftime.

The second half began much in the same way that the first ended, with the Gladstone Braves controlling much of the play.  Gladstone led 41-36 after three quarters, but this lead was quickly erased once the final frame began.  The Hematites turned the tide of play, scoring early and often to retake the lead in the first two minutes of the quarter after a 9-0 run.  The game came down to the wire, with each team holding and then losing a one-point lead in the final minute of play.  In the end, it was the Hematites that found themselves on top in the nail-biter by a score of 56-53.

Leading the way offensively for Ishpeming was Darius Yohe with 26 points, while on the Gladstone side it was Reece Castor, who also scored 26 points on the night.

The Ishpeming Hematites boys’ basketball team is back in action on Tuesday, January 30, when they host the Houghton Gremlins.  The tip time of that game is set for 7:30, and you can catch all the action on 98.3 WRUP and online at wrup.com.
