Try a Cup of Cheer this Holiday Season with Some Holiday Mixed Drink Recipes!

Marquette, MI  – Soon we will begin to see subzero temperatures, not see the sun, and everything will be covered in ice, but there is something that can help!  Something to brighten our spirits, make the troubles go away, and give us the strength to last until the joy of Christmas day!

What is this magical thing? Well, the Who called it their friend. George Thorogood sang about his buddies Jack Daniel’s, Jimmy Bean and Johnny Walker. You guessed it, it’s alcohol.

With less than 25 days left before Christmas, the unavoidable stress of the season is about to begin. As college kids get ready for finals and the stress of purchasing the “right” gifts, or having enough money to even buy a gift hovers over us, everyone could use a little “something” to relax – 21 and up of course!

Check out a few of my favorite recipes, some homemade, to make your Christmas season more manageable.

BayLua Hot Chocolate – Hot

This tasty drink is good to the last drop mixing hot chocolate, Baileys Irish Cream & Kahlúa. Follow these quick directions and find some cheer at the bottom of your cup.

  • Heat 1 cup of water in an electric steamer or in the microwave. (Do not use milk as alcohol and milk is not a good combination!)
  • Add one packet of powdered Hot Chocolate Milk Mix after water is hot. (I use Swiss Miss, without marshmallows)
  • Add 3 single shots of Baileys Irish Cream (or to your liking, Ryan’s is a good alternative for a cheaper price)
  • Add 3 single shots of Kahlúa (or to your liking)
  • To finish, feel free to cover the top with whip cream and caramel.
    • From easy application of the caramel: taking a zip-lock bag, added a spoon full of caramel syrup of your choice. Move all the caramel to one corner of the bag, snip the corner with scissors, and pipe onto whip cream topping!
    • Caution! May be hot & drink responsibly.
    • Serves 1, multiply per person

Fire Apple Cider – Hot

Check out this awesome custom made drink that is sure to warm you up. This one mixes fresh apple cinder and Fireball Whiskey.

  • Pour a 3/4 full glass of apple cider (I use fresh stuff from a local cider mill)
  • Add 2 sticks of cinnamon.
  • Heat in microwave until hot.
  • Add 2 shots of Fireball Whiskey
  • Add 2 shots of Mount Gay Golden Rum
  • Stir and add whip cream to top and a pinch of grounded cinnamon.
    • Serves 1, multiply per person

Bourbon Christmas Egg Nog – Cold

Here is a Christmas classic with a little twist. This one mixes store bought eggnog with the taste of  rich brown liquors.

  • Open your chilled premixed store bought eggnog. (Trader Joe’s has some great stuff.)
  • Add 4 shots of your choice of bourbon. (Buffalo Trace is good for this. Jim Beam Black or Wild Turkey work too. Evan Williams is a good choice if you’re on a budget)
  • Add 2 shots of Cognac of your choice (Grand Marnier or Courvoisier)
    • If your drink gets warm, stick it in the freezer for 10 mins! (Just don’t forget it’s in there.)
    • Serves 1, multiply per person
