Ishpeming, Michigan – November 21st, 2015 – It’s Hematite playoff action on Real Classic Rock 98.3 WRUP and WRUP.com! The Ishpeming Hematites were getting ready to take on the New Lothrop Hornets in Marquette at the Superior Dome on Saturday afternoon.
New Lothrop was able to win the opening coin toss, and they elected to differ receiving the ball until the second half of play. So, the Ishpeming Hematites opened the game in control of the football, but multiple fumbles, which Ishpeming was able to recover, quickly put a stop to their drive. Ishpeming punted the ball to New Lothrop, and the Hematites played some strong defense when they quickly stopped the Hornets drive, forcing the Hornets to punt back to Ishpeming. On New Lothrop’s next drive, Nick Comment recovered a fumble on the Hornets’ 23 yard line, giving Ishpeming great field position. The first quarter ended with the Hematites in control of the ball.
The Ishpeming Hematites started the second quarter with great field position. On the second play of the quarter, Thomas Finnegan caught a huge pass for the first touchdown of the game, and with the successful extra point, the score was 8-0. The New Lothrop Hornets attempted to get some offense started, but Ishpeming’s defense held strong. The success for Ishpeming continued when Nick Comment intercepted a Hornets’ pass to give control of the ball right back to the Hematites. Ozzy Corp scored another touchdown for Ishpeming on a quick run, and after the unsuccessful extra point, the score was 14-0. As the quarter wound to a close, the Hornets did their best to put some points on the board, and they were able to score on fourth and one with 11 seconds left in the first half. After the unsuccessful two point attempt, the score was 14-6 in favor of Ishpeming, only on 98.3 WRUP and WRUP.com!

The Ishpeming Hematites started the second half of play on defense, but they started off with a bang when they recovered another fumble from New Lothrop on the third play of the quarter. Ishpeming slowly but steadily made their way down the field into the red zone, and they looked to put more distance between themselves and the Hornets. Ozzy Corp was able to score another touchdown on a quick two yard run, and after the successful two point attempt, the score was 22-6. On the Hornets next drive, Ozzy Corp came up with another huge play when he intercepted the ball and ran to the Hematites own 29 yard line, but the third quarter ended without any more scoring.
The final quarter of play started with the Ishpeming Hematites in control of the ball, but Ishpeming was forced to punt to the Hornets. Ishpeming was in complete control of the game, and they went into their clock-burning offense, not running a single pass play in the second half of play. The desperation for New Lothrop continued to grow as the fourth quarter wound down, and the Ishpeming Hematites continued their domination of the game. Despite the strong defense from Ishpeming, the Hornets were able to score with less than two minutes left in the game to make the score 22-14 after a good two point conversion. The New Lothrop Hornets attempted an on-side kick, but Ishpeming was able to jump on the ball and end all hopes for the Hornets to move on to the finals.
